MPs have asked the Treasury to put more focus on a single Budget in the UK rather than using the Autumn Statement as a second Budget in the year.

MPs said two budgets “created uncertainty and costs for business and the economy”.

"The primacy of the Budget as the main focus of fiscal and economic policy making should be re-established," the MPs said.

The Autumn Statement has gained prominence since Gordon Brown used it to announce tax and policy changes, rather than as an update on the UK economy and the state of public finances.
