Maserati has revealed its four-door executive saloon which will be the first in the brand's history to be offered with a diesel engine.

The Ghibli, due to be launched at the Shanghai Motor Show this month, will be offered with a choice of a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol with either 330bhp or 400bhp or a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel with 300bhp.

More compact than Maserati's Quattroporte luxury saloon, and priced from around £50,000 to compete with the German establishment, Ghibli is Maserati’s first saloon in this segment and reflects the company’s belief that a growing number of premium executive car buyers are looking to make an individual statement through a car that is distinctive, elegant and luxurious.

The Ghibli will play a significant role in Maserati’s growth plan to sell 50,000 cars per year globally.
