Toyota will be showing off its Yaris Hybrid-R concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month as part of a wider plan to highlight the company’s hybrid technology.

The Hybrid-R is based on a three-door Yaris fitted with a 1.6-litre GRE (Global Race Engine) developed by Toyota Motorsport, combined with two electric motors for a combined power output of 400bhp. The concept can also recover energy under braking, which is stored in a super capacitor.

Toyota will also be showing off the latest status of its Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV) technology at Frankfurt, ahead of the market launch of a production car by 2015.
