Skoda is planning to introduce a new SUV at the top of its range to compete with models like the Hyundai Sante Fe and Kia Sportage.

Skoda told AM-sister title CAR magazine the new model will sit above the Yeti in the range and a pre-production model has already started initial testing.

The new model will not be related to the new SUV which will be joining the Seat range, but will use VW Group’s MQB platform.

Seat will launch its compact SUV in the UK in 2016. The crossover SUV segment represents close to one million cars per year in Europe and the segment has grown by more than 40% over the last five years, with further growth expected.
