Motor trader Joshua Trainor has been fined just £110 for selling cars while pretending to be a private seller.

Trainor advertised more than 30 cars online between October 2011 and April 2013, describing many as being from family members and reluctant sales.

Teesside Magistrates' Court heard the cars had in fact been bought from auctions or trade sources.

Trainor, of Burlam Road, Linthorpe, was prosecuted by Middlesbrough Council’s Trading Standards section under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

He pleaded guilty and was fined £110 with a £20 victim surcharge and ordered to pay costs of £500 when he appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court.
