4: Keep staff informed
Swansway Garages, the 17-franchise dealer group in the North West, has ranked in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For for the past three years and has staff turnover below 10%.
The Smyth family’s business keeps its 700 workers informed and engaged through a variety of tools. These include an intranet, flatscreen displays on the walls at every dealership that show business performance and staff achievements, and a bi-monthly newsletter, Your Way, posted to every employee’s home, full of news about company projects, events and praise for unsung heroes and team members who’ve excelled at their job.
The company recently launched a quarterly ‘dinner with David’, whereby any employee can put themselves forward for a group business lunch at Crewe Hall with Swansway director David Smyth, and this summer the group is holding its second annual family fun day for all its staff and their children.
