Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is creating 400 new showroom, technical and head office jobs, fuelled by strong sales growth in 2014.

A £20 million investment in marketing to support the arrival of the Outlander PHEV is driving the company’s sales success, it says.

Sales at the company are up 32% on last year and up 197% in July, according to SMMT figures.

The Outlander PHEV is now the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant best seller, accounting for 43% of successful applications in July, attracting buyers with CO2 emissions of 44g/km, which offers benefits for company car drivers and allows the car to use the London congestion charge zone for free after registering for a 100% discount.

Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said: "We are preparing the business for an extended period of growth with the recruitment of new staff and investment in training and dealer support. The business is performing extremely well, based on the introduction of new models and exciting growth plans over the next five years."

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK employs 200 staff at its head office in Cirencester and a further 60 at its vehicle import handling facility at the Royal Portbury docks, Bristol. The business supports the employment of around 2000 staff at UK dealerships and service centres.
