Online motoring platform Motoriety.co.uk has announced that former BMW and Porsche chief executive Kevin Gaskell (pictured) has invested in the company and joined the board as chairman.

Gaskell provides almost 30 years’ experience and significant expertise in the automotive sector to boost Motoriety’s growth strategy.

London based start-up Motoriety was launched last year. Acting as the personal assistant for your car, Motoriety aims to ensure that the vehicle’s compliance, administration and records are maintained. It also reminds drivers of service and maintenance needs in advance and can pre-book the car for service, parts, tyres or MoT at Motoriety’s network of vetted garages. The site creates and maintains an 'AUTObiography' which is a verified digital history for each car - strengthening its residual value and can be passed on to the next owner.

Gaskell said: “The automotive space has been spinning its wheels when it comes to implementing a true digital strategy. What makes Motoriety special is its unique, forward-thinking proposition which, in my view, is exactly what the industry and motorists have been crying out for. To be part of something so innovative is very exciting and the scale of the opportunity is vast. The combination of these aspects made Motoriety stand out for me as an opportunity to support a very interesting business.

“Motoriety's co-founders, Lucy Burnford and Olli Astley, have impressive track records. I was struck by how much traction the business has achieved in a short period of time, as well as how thorough and forward thinking the business vision is. I can see a significant opportunity to help the business to achieve its full potential.”

Motoriety co-founder Lucy Burnford said: “Even before we launched the business, we had Kevin at the top of our 'hit list' as our choice of chairman. He has been instrumental in several industry success stories, so we’re thrilled he's come on board. Kevin's track record speaks for itself and he continues to achieve a great deal both personally and professionally - he's a real 'doer' which is perfect for us. We didn't just want a figurehead, we wanted someone who will be actively involved in giving the platform the acceleration it needs to move to the next stage and fulfil its true potential.”

Co-founder Olli Astley said: "I first met Kevin whilst he was in the early stages of building Epyx back in the late 90's and throughout my years in the automotive sector he has always been on my radar as someone who is consistently successful in the automotive sector. Having him on board at Motoriety is fantastic news for our business.”
