Eight cars have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack on the forecourt of Inchcape’s Old Trafford Volkswagen dealership.

Police were called to the incident on Bridgewater Way shortly after 9pm last night.

Firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to other cars and nearby buildings, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

A GMP spokesman told the newspaper that the incident was being treated as a suspected arson attack.

Forensics teams were called in to gather evidence from the scene.

As a clean-up operation got underway the dealership this morning, a representative from the business said that there would be “no comment” at this stage.
