City council planners have given the go-ahead for a £15 million Mercedes-Benz centre in Birmingham for LSH Auto UK.

This follows LSH Auto UK’s recent acquisition of a derelict former school site from Birmingham City Council at auction last month.

LSH Auto UK received planning permission from Birmingham City Council on October 26, to build a used car centre in Bromford Lane

This six-acre (24,000sq m) site in Erdington will be able to display 200 vehicles and will include 12 workshop bays. It will showcase 50 models in its showroom and a further 150 vehicles outside.

The facility is aiming to be a used car centre of excellence with industry-leading facilities.

LSH Auto UK’s managing director Clive Hammond said: “The planning application for our used-car centre of excellence in Erdington was fully supported by Birmingham City Council and we are now looking forward to working with the council over the next few months to deliver this strategically important site to support our business.

“We will be putting colleagues, customers, sustainability and community at the heart of the design of this building. We will create industry-leading facilities and the site will give a new and unique offering to our customers with cars of all ages available.

“The development will be harmonious to the environment and will comply with the Government’s BREEAM environmental scheme while also helping Birmingham City Council’s vision to regenerate this part of Birmingham. It’s another great story on our continued investment in the UK.”

Groundworks at the site started on October 30 and full construction is set to begin early next year, with an anticipated completion date of December 2018.
