A car dealer in the Midlands has been found guilty of possessing an illegal stun gun.

Thomas Kavanagh, a father of six described as a prestige car dealer, was convicted last week at Stoke-On-Trent Crown Court after police found the stun gun, disguised as a torch, at his home.

The search at his home followed his arrest at Birmingham Airport as he returned from a family holiday in Mexico.

The arrest of the Irish businessman, aged 51, of Mile Oak near Tamworth, who has lived in the UK for the past 15 years, was part of a wider investigation into money laundering, drugs and firearms supply, said the National Crime Agency.

In an earlier hearing Kavanagh was described by his defence as working alongside two sons to run Karl’s Prestige Cars.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
