Two of the latest electric vehicles to hit UK roads - the Kia EV3 and the new MGS5 EV - have both been awarded the highest possible safety rating of five stars by independent vehicle safety testing organisation Euro NCAP.
The Kia EV3, a compact electric SUV and winner of the 2025 World Car of the Year, achieved a score of 83% for adult occupant protection, 84% for child occupant protection, 78% for vulnerable road users, and 78% in the safety assist category. The EV3 also received maximum points in the side barrier test for adult protection.
Key to its safety performance is the standard-fit DriveWise ADAS pack, which uses a combination of cameras and radar sensors to detect potential hazards and assist the driver in maintaining safe driving behaviour.
Euro NCAP also praised the inclusion of a direct driver status monitoring system, an advanced eCall emergency alert system, and Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which contributes to the vehicle’s strong, rigid body structure.
Similarly, the newly launched MGS5 EV impressed Euro NCAP evaluators with its high scores: 90% for adult occupant protection, 82% for child occupant protection, 82% for vulnerable road users, and 78% in the safety assist category.
MG’s advanced MG Pilot system, which comes as standard, includes a suite of ADAS technologies such as collision avoidance, lane safety, adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking, and blind spot detection.
Euro NCAP programme director Aled Williams commenting on the MGS5 EV’s performance, said: “Congratulations to MG for a well-deserved five-star rating for the MGS5 EV. Euro NCAP continues to push manufacturers to strive for the highest levels of safety, and it is rewarding that MG have responded so positively.”
Additionally, the MGS5 EV benefits from braking technology developed with Continental, incorporating the latest integrated braking booster system for EVs. With large ventilated discs (321mm front, 300mm rear), the vehicle can brake from 62mph to a standstill in just 35.5 metres.
