Lexus dealers will open their order books in October for the smallest car that the prestige brand has ever offered UK drivers, the LBX compact SUV.

Priced from £29,995, the LBX is based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross and is offered with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain.

It will enable Lexus dealerships to target consumers who previously might buy a Mini Countryman or Audi Q2 and to retain customers who want to downsize from its larger cars.

Lexus says the LBX is a "landmark model" that will break down the traditional luxury hierarchy and will be a "game-changer" for the brand in Europe.

During August Lexus is taking the LBX on a month-long tour of city centre locations and prestige visitor attractions, including BBC Good Food Live event at Goodwood Racecourse and the Hampton Court Palace Food Festival.

Other prominent destinations in the itinerary include Birmingham, Belfast and Leeds city centres, Media City in Salford and the Westfield retail centre in West London.

At each venue, Lexus brand ambassadors will be on hand to answer customer questions and take details from those who wish to be kept informed about the model as it approaches its on-sale date.

The LBX will have the premium features and equipment that a Lexus buyer would expect, including a high-quality interior with a fully digital instument cluster and a 9.8-inch central touchscreen, and it will be front-wheel drive.

The core trim levels include the entry-level Urban, Premium, Premium Plus and Takumi, Premium Plus Design and Takumi Design.

The LBX will also come in four ‘atmospheres’, trim packs that change the look and feel of the car.

The first customer orders are expected to arrive at dealerships in March 2024.

An all-wheel-drive variant will be offered at a later date.
