Ford has delivered 1,000 Mustangs to UK customers as sales of the first right-hand-drive versions of the iconic performance car exceed 3,500.

The manufacturer reported that 80% of UK customers had opted for the fastback body style over the convertible so far, with 68% having specified the high performance, 410bhp 5-litre V8 engine in the first batch of Mustangs to be made available through Ford’s franchised dealership network.

A Ford spokesman added: “Mustang’s six-speed manual transmission is customers slightly more popular choice (54 per cent) over the six-speed automatic, which comes with sporty SelectShift paddle control.

“Race Red is the most-popular exterior colour among UK buyers, specified on 20% of Mustang orders. Magnetic Silver is second in line with 17% and Shadow Black is third with 15%.”
