Luscombe managing director Robin Luscombe is to step back from the day-to-day business operations, handing the reins to son Sam Luscombe.
Robin Luscombe, who turns 64 in August has spent 47 years in the motor industry and will now take on the role of chairman.
Stepping up from his previous role as sales director, Sam Luscombe originally joined the multiple AM Award-winning car dealer as innovation manager, charged with overhauling its digital offering using his experience at Google and in a tech start-up.
Five years ago, he took on the challenge of launching the Luscombe MG franchise from scratch. Under his leadership, it has grown to become the largest single-site MG dealership in the UK, delivering over 7,000 new MGs.
Aware of the challenges associated with second generation businesses, Sam Luscombe attributes some of the success to his earned experiences outside of the industry to bring fresh thinking and a new perspective.
Robin Luscombe commented: “Sam has earned the respect of our team for what he does, not who he is. With the strength of our team and Sam’s energy and vision, the future looks very bright.”
Luscombe Motors currently represents the Suzuki and MG brands, as well as operating an aftersales franchise for Mitsubishi. Over the past 12 months, the business reports that it achieved record new and used car sales, alongside a significant increase in aftersales revenue.
Sam Luscombe said: “I’m fortunate to assume a position with the business in such rude health following 15 years of sustainable growth. Our recent focus on digital capability and innovative approach to alternatively fuelled vehicles stands us in good stead to capitalise on future opportunities in a changing industry."
Robin Luscombe set up the business in 2010, buying Bowetts Suzuki in Leeds initially and then Bowetts Mitsubishi, after leaving Colin Appleyard Group, where he had been running some of its motorcycle dealerships.
