Škoda has unveiled a dramatic new electric concept car inspired by one of its most significant historical models, the Škoda Favorit.

The concept marks the latest in a series of modern reinterpretations from the Czech manufacturer, following recent tributes to the 200 RS, the 1203 van, and the original Voiturette.

Originally launched in 1987, the late-1980s hatchback represented a key turning point for Škoda, as the brand moved toward more modern, internationally competitive vehicles.

Developed under challenging conditions behind the Iron Curtain, the Favorit became a symbol of Czech ingenuity and played a vital role in attracting the attention of Volkswagen, which would later acquire the brand.

One of the most distinctive features of the concept is its lighting design. The original Favorit, famously styled with help from Italian design house Bertone, faced the challenge of incorporating large, standard-issue Czechoslovakian headlamps.

Slavov’s modern solution pays homage with slim LED strips concealed behind semi-transparent housings that match the size and shape of the original units. The covers also allow for customisable lighting patterns, offering a nod to both personalisation and heritage.

While the concept is not intended for production, Škoda says the design exercise sends a clear signal about its future direction -one that honours its past while embracing innovation and sustainability.

“The Favorit was a car that helped define Škoda’s modern era,” said a company spokesperson. “This concept shows how our roots continue to inspire the way forward.”

Škoda is expected to reveal more concept reinterpretations of historic models in the coming months.
