Mark Hankey, BCA’s sales director, has extended an invitation across the auctions and remarketing industry to share information between groups.

He made it clear the idea was not about price fixing, but providing a full picture of analysis for the UK’s used car market.

Hankey spoke at the Vehicle Remarketing Association’s first annual conference.

He said: “It’s time to pull all the information together across groups.

"There are some people in the industry that are at war with each other, but we’ve all managed to get in the same room at this conference for the good
of the industry.

“Is there a possibility to share and make things better? I think there’s enough will in the industry to make it happen.”

Speaking separately about pricing, Hankey said it shouldn’t be seen as a “dark art”.

He said: “There are a lot of people still using their gut feel or intuition when it comes to pricing, but it’s not a dark art, it’s a science. We need real-time price point information online.”
