Having driven the Genesis Electrified GV70 for some time now I've been really impressed with its raft of technology that's honestly useful for buyers.
To start with, although the Electrified GV70 is built on a modified version of a petrol car platform, it carries over the 800V electrical architecture from Genesis and Hyundai’s dedicated EVs, which is a major win, as it allows ultra-rapid charging and makes long journeys dread-free.
On a recent 250-mile journey I hooked it up to an ulti-rapid charger at a Starbucks on the A1 just while I went inside to order a take-out coffee, and in that five or six minutes it had added more than 40 miles, giving me that comfort blanket of knowing that I could easily make it home even if there was a diversion.
For British buyers still concerned about practicality, this is a major selling point.
Its architecture even includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which means it can power external devices. Owners can take the kids away on a camping trip and use its charge to power a laptop or even a small kettle via its standard three-pin plug adapter. It’s especially attractive for families, outdoorsy types, or small business owners who want more than just transport from their car.
The impressive but practical technology doesn't stop there, encouraging those who buy this car to use it like the ICE-powered cars they grew up with, and rack up the miles without anxiety. Out on the road, the Genesis Electrified GV70 uses adaptive suspension with 'road preview', a camera-based system that scans the road ahead for potholes or speed bumps and pre-adjusts damping in real time. It ensures a comfortable ride even on the rutted rural roads of Cambridgeshire.
Its plush seats have heating and ventillation plus a massage function, to ease the strain of the longest commutes, and a novel setting in the infotainment system can quiten down the sound system in the rear to help passengers to take a sneaky snooze. That's something my teenage daughter particularly welcomed.
I find that the 14.5-inch widescreen infotainment display is crisp and responsive. It is controlled via touch, rotary dial, or voice - the latter is easy and very responsive and has become my default control of choice.
Yet that rorary dial is particularly useful for one neat trick - drivers can use it to see any angle of the car when parking or simply selecting the 360-degree surround view camera. Check out the kerb appeal.
Or if they really want to show off to their passengers the remote parking function via their keyfob will be real talking point.
Plus there's an entire raft of driver assistance systems that work to keep the occupants secure and helped this EV get a top five-star EuroNCAP safety rating.
The Genesis GV70 Electrified is not a tech gimmick. It’s a car packed with functional, user-friendly innovation that enhances the driving experience without overwhelming the driver.
For British dealerships, this EV represents a kind of luxury where technology serves the user, not just the spec sheet. It’s a serious, credible alternative to legacy premium brands, and for customers willing to explore beyond the badge, the tech story here is a very strong pitch.
