The VW Eos will take a strike at two classes: the Focus CC, 307 CC segment and the 9-3 convertible, C70 sector.

Eos features a five-section folding hard top roof that is claimed to combine the characteristics of a coupé, convertible and sliding roof. VW says the roof drops in around 25 seconds.

A four-seater, though the rear seats offer cramped legroom, the Eos is based on VW’s modular platform and will effectively replace the Golf convertible. Five engines will be available from launch: 1.6-litre 115bhp FSI, 2.0-litre 150bhp and 200bhp FSI, 3.2-litre 250bhp V6 with DGS gearbox as standard and a 2.0-litre 140bhp TDI.

Expect pricing to be around £20,000. VW hopes to sell 4,000 in the UK with the top selling model being the 2.0-litre 150PS FSI.
