Fiat's Punto roof airbag option is a safety first on volume car.

Roof airbags, to cushion passengers from side window and roof impacts, are not available on the Punto's competitors.

Twin 12-litre nylon roof bags deploy from above side windows to protect front seat passengers. The £343 Inflatable Tubular System (ITS) roof bag option is in addition to side air bags, previously optional and now standard. In the event of a severe collision all four air bags inflate simultaneously. The Punto scored a class-leading 4-star rating in Euro-NCAP crash tests. Roof airbags on the Punto give Fiat an edge in safety performance in the volume car market.

Roof bags are not an option on the Punto Mia, but standard on the Punto HGT and HGT Abarth. The HGT's OTR price rises to £12,504.90 and the HGT Abarth to £13,506.00 as a result. (August 14, 2001)
