While I wouldn’t want you to think AM’s editorial team does anything but hard slog to create a good magazine every two weeks – our job does have it perks.

My latest was a trip to Ibiza for a press launch of the new Ford Ka - Breaking up the monotony of dark mornings and evenings with a trip to the Spanish island definitely helped my winter blues.

If it makes you feel better, it was raining and not awfully warm on arrival, but then flying by private jet had put us in good spirits so it didn’t seem so bad.

Driving both the petrol and diesel engines of the new Ka around some stunning island routes made for a great couple of days, especially when the sun came out.

Not only did my co-driver and I discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the car, but we also put the world to rights.

To end a tiring but admittedly fun first day, we arrived at a stunning new hotel, where I went to the gym and was treated to a massage before going into Ford’s presentation with Roelant de Waard about the carmaker’s hopes for its new sub-B segment car.

More driving the next day, and more food (never in short supply) before it was all over far too quickly.

A sleep and a few miles later, we landed back in sad Stansted, ready for another day in the office.
