Anchor Vans will expand its car and commercial vehicle retail operations into a neighbouring two-acre site after acquiring the land from The Caravan Company.

The used vehicle retailer will take its flagship dealership on the A4 at Padworth, just outside of Reading, up to five acres with the development, which is set to get underway later this year.

A statement issued by the business said that it was currently working “at full capacity” and will benefit from the new space through the creation of a permanent location for the valeting department, an area for transporters to unload away from the busy main road and more room for stock.

Simon Joyce, the managing director of Anchor Vans, said: "We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our main site and we are excited about the improvements it will bring to our business, our employee’s working lives and the local community.

“Our family-run business has been operating in the local area for over 30 years, and we look forward to continuing our growth which will open up further job opportunities within our area."

Now approaching its fourth decade in the business, the Berkshire-based company runs sites at three separate locations.

Anchor sells all makes and models of commercial vehicles, a 60-strong team delivering an average of 50 vehicles per week.

This week’s announcement regarding its expansion follows planning approval for renovations to the company’s third site along the A4 in Midgham, where the business will be making changes including the installation of a new glass-fronted showroom and additional MOT bay.

This will improve the appearance of the current building and reduce the need for vehicles to be transported between sites.
