For the third consecutive season Haywood Racing has lifted the Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec championship - described as one of the most spectacular British motorsports.

The team won two out of four of the European series races in 1999 and has produced the class champion driver two years in a row.

Team boss Jim Warren, commenting on the closeness of racing that makes it such a gripping spectacle, says: “The main point is that you've got to stay as near as you can to a normal Zetec engine. You can't take it to full race spec - if you did these cars would be doing 180mph. As it is we clocked 157mph this year in Monza.

“When you're driving with similar engines the margin of difference between one and another is minute. Driver quality is most important, and tuning, but every other advantage you get comes from the product that you put in the engines, the gearbox, and your braking - whether your braking's more efficient than the rest.”

Haywood has used Texaco lubricants exclusively for the past three seasons. Jim Warren comments: “Texaco's 5W-30 engine oil, Energy, is ideal. It's been used in Stewart Grandprix F1 cars. It gives us the all round performance and reliability we've got to have to keep on winning.”
