East Midlands' car dealer Co-Op Motor Group has promised to create 150 new jobs in the next six months after being given a new market area to sell Renault and Nissan.

The area encompasses Nottingham, Derby, Ilkeston and Mansfield. The Frank Whittle Way site in Derby will sell Renault from January 1, 2002, the Ilkeston dealership will sell Renault and Nissan and the Co-Op Motor Group is considering selling Renault in Mansfield.

The group predicts the deal will mean an additional 5,000 more car sales per year and a £40m increase in annual turnover. This year, turnover is expected to be the highest ever, £145m.

Chris Elvidge, Co-Op Motor Group managing director, said: “We are continuing to grow our business and I anticipate even more growth in the future. Adding Renault to our portfolio means we now represent 11 manufacturers at our dealerships in the East Midlands.

“ A phased introduction of cars has begun in Nottingham, where a temporary facility now has cars available. Towards the end of next year we intend to open a new 2.5-acre facility in Nottingham to accommodate both franchises.”
