The RMI has published a consumer guide to buying a used car at auction.

The guide, produced by the RMI's Society of Motor Auctions (SMA), will be distributed to trading standards' authorities and will be available at Citizens Advice offices.

Alistair Manson, the RMI's Society of Motor Auctions director, said: “The federation frequently receives requests for information and guidance from individuals who wish to know the basics of buying at auction. This booklet aims to make the buying process simple and straightforward by providing essential background knowledge and tips. Modern day motor auctions are highly professional, and can often provide an alternative environment for the well-informed first-time buyer.”

The RMI also produces a listing of locations of its members' auction houses, and the RMI consumer motorline - 08457 58 53 50 – is also available. For those with internet access, RMI auction members can be searched for at www.rmif.co.uk and by clicking on 'Find A Service'. (December 19, 2001)
