America's largest internet car seller, carsdirect.com, has moved out of the UK market after UK company Cars Direct Group threatened to take High Court action if carsdirect.com traded under that name in the UK.

The internet giant indicated that it intended to move into the UK market in November last year but has now changed its mind following the challenge by Northampton-based Cars Direct Group.

Cars Direct managing director Roger Woodward said: “We are one of the UK's premier fleet remarketing specialists and corporate car suppliers, so it is important that we protect the integrity of our brand in the marketplace”.

“Consumers want to know they are dealing with the Cars Direct Group that they trust and rely on.”

This is the latest action by Cars Direct Group to preserve the right to use its name. Over the years, the company has stopped many businesses, ranging from national corporations to sole traders, from using the 'Cars Direct' name.

Cars Direct Group is a national company providing a range of fleet and finance services, including remarketing, rental, movement, maintenance and new car delivery.
