Scottish dealer Clelands of the Borders has become only the second UK group to house two Ford Premier Automotive Group brands on the same site after opening a £500,000 Jaguar dealership next to its Volvo outlet in Galashiels. The other is Dobsons in Kendal, Cumbria.

The move restores Jaguar to the Scottish Borders after an absence of seven years. It confirms PAG's intention to group the brands at retail sites when possible.

Soon after he was appointed PAG chairman, Wolfgang Reitzle spoke of the advantage of two or three of the brands sharing sites. PAG also includes Land Rover and Aston Martin. The strategy could encourage potential customers to another brand in the Ford family. It would also be invaluable in the drive to cut 'back office' costs such as accounts.

Clelands of the Borders owner John Cleland, a former double British Touring Car racing champion, plans to sell 115 new and used Jaguars during the first 12 months of trading. He has been “staggered” by the response to a recent one-day local promotional event which attracted 200 potential customers.
