Bodyshops and insurers are being urged to respond to the DVLA's consultation paper into registration plate legislation before it causes an administrative nightmare.

Glass's Guide believes proposed changes forcing registration plate suppliers to keep detailed records of the sale of plates and to obtain proof of identity and vehicle ownership before making new sets would cause headaches for bodyshops.

Gordon Reid, Glass's commercial and insurance division commercial director, said: “We're encouraging bodyshop owners to respond to the proposal in order for the industry to have its say rather than live with legislation that will have costly implications.”
