A new tyre condition diagnostic system – transferred straight from the hi-tech world of motor racing – has been launched on the aftermarket.

The Group Tyre Diagnostic Diary, from Cheshire-based Group Tyre UK, is a software system that analyses patterns across each tyre – notably high traffic areas of the tread. Additionally, readings can identify problems in other safety-related areas, including alignment, suspension malfunction, tracking and steering.

Each customer can receive a printed tyre check report with replacement priorities and anticipated life of each tyre on the vehicle. This can be downloaded into a database to indicate when customers should call in for remedial work. The tyre diary report also facilitates customer appreciation of a clear tyre replacement policy – whether it is based on “legal” minimum tread depths or manufacturer recommended depths.

Group Tyre chairman John Church says: “For our car dealership customers, the tyre diary will mean regular contact with customers – one of the industry's problems has always been that replacement tyres are often a distress purchase and there is no ongoing link with the tyre supplier.”
