General Motors may possibly re-badge Daewoos in the US and other target markets as a precursor to a major sales expansion for the South Korean car business.

GM plans to increase Daewoo sales by a third from 30,000 to 50,000 units by 2004.

GM Daewoo chief executive Nick Reilly says that up to 35 per cent of all South Korean-made Daewoos could be sold under another GM brand – although the decision on which to use has yet to be made.

GM has a choice of using Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn brands in the US, Opel and Vauxhall in Europe, and Holden in Australia, reports the Financial Times.
