Mazda Motor Corp) plans next month to merge two of its three dealership networks in Japan to enhance its cost efficiency in the face of slumping sales.

According to reports in the Japanese media, the automaker currently sells trucks at its Mazda dealerships, and markets sports cars such as the RX-7 through Enfini shops. It intends to consolidate the two networks when it rolls out its new RX-8 sports car in May. The combined network will sell passenger and commercial vehicles of all models, except for minicars.

The third dealership channel, Autozam, will continue selling minicars with an engine capacity of 660cc or less.

The names of the Mazda and Enfini shops will remain the same for the time being, but the automaker will consider renaming them in the future.
