Ford designs for growth

Ford has used an 'empathy' belly and other design aids for the first time in developing a vehicle which can comfortably be driven by a pregnant woman.

The 2004 Monterey minivan joins the GM Malibu in taking into account the shape of expectant mothers in internal design ergonomics. The Monterey's second-row seats easily fold and tumble forward. The third-row seat folds flat — another first. An articulating arm adds length to the strap used to pull the third-row seat into the floor.
