Banbury-based Prodrive has set up a new business in Irvine, California, in partnership with design studio Aria, to sell accessories and styling kits.

Together they have developed a Prodrive CR-1 Canyon Racer to show American tuners how to "do a WRX" and Prodrive says it will consider selling the package in the UK.

Based on an Acura NSX sports coupe, this aftermarket performance package includes an aero pack, modified suspension, bigger brakes, OZ wheels and tyres, racing seats and revised interior trim.

"We're taking a different strategy to the market from everyone else in the US," says Roland Cherry, director of product technology at Prodrive. "Ours is the same holistic approach we take in Europe, where we develop a package of components for a single model with the aim of improving performance while enhancing the styling."

Prodrive USA expects the CR-1 package to be available this spring. The company already supplies the US market with a performance pack for the Subaru Impreza WRX.
