MG Rover's CityRover will go on sale in the UK this month. Based on the Tata Indica, it is powered by an 85bhp, 1.4-litre engine and marks Rover's return to the supermini sector following the demise of the Rover 100 in 1997.

Priced from £6495, there are four trims from the entry level Solo to the top of the range Style, which has air conditioning, alloys, a sporty gearknob and leather steering wheel.

MG Rover is expecting the CityRover to compete with the Ford Ka, Hyundai Getz, Peugeot 106 and Citroen C2 superminis.
