As if 340bhp was not enough, Mitsubishi has now launched an even more brutish Evo VIII – the MR FQ-400.

The new FQ is powered by a further modified version of Mitsubishi’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, now able to produce 405bhp and 355lb-ft of torque.

This gives the four-door saloon a top speed of more than 175mph and a staggering 0-60mph time of just 3.5 seconds, enough to outperform the BMW M3 which takes 5.3 seconds and even the new £330,000 Porsche Carrera GT which manages it in 3.9 seconds.

Aerodynamics have been suitably modified to deal with the extra power and include new aero mirrors, a carbon fibre front chin spoiler and sharks tooth rear vortex generator which is designed to guide airflow over the top pf the car towards the rear spoiler, increasing downforce.

Built to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mitsubishi’s entry into the UK market, the new FQ-400 will be built on a limited edition run of 100 cars and is available to order at £46,999.
