Volkswagen has added a new diesel engine and the option of a multimedia pack on its Touran compact MPV.

The new 1.9-litre TDI power plant produces 88bhp, and is available in S trim at the entry point of the Touran range.

With the help of Volkswagen’s ‘pumpe duse’ system, it manages of 47.1 mpg. A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard.

The new integrated multimedia pack includes a 7-inch screen mounted in the centre of the roof, which can play CDs, MP3s and can be linked to camcorders and games consoles.

Up to three sets of headphones can be connected, all with individual volume controls and the whole system can be operated by a remote control.

Prices for the Touran range start at £14,380 for the S 1.6-litre 100bhp, with the new S 1.9-litre TDI 88bhp costing £15,350 (on-the-road). The multimedia pack is available as an option across the Touran range with immediate effect, priced at £1,500 for the SE and Sport, or £1,560 for the S model (which receives a speaker upgrade as part of the package).
