Renault UK says most of the 49 additional satellite points will be servicing outlets. “We have identified some of the areas, and they will all come from territories where we have shortfalls in service coverage or capacity in the network,” says a spokeswoman.

Renault's large retail partners are in discussions, as well as some smaller groups. They are reacting to pressure on workshop capacity and recognise this will get worse, in terms of congestion and lead times. Most of the service outlets will be Renault-only though some may be combined with Nissan if it needs more aftersales capacity.

“The overall strategy started in 2000 has not changed,” says the spokeswoman. “Common hubs between Renault and Nissan dealers will be created where it is appropriate. By the end of the plan, about half of territories will be common hubs.”
