Euro NCAP has awarded the Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet with a maximum five star rating- making it the sixth Renault to achieve top marks in the safety tests.

The vehicle, tested in the cabriolet configuration achieved a score of 33.56 out of 37, even more than the Scenic II which was until today the safest car on the market for frontal impacts.

Also in the same group of testing the Saab 9-3 Convertible has become the first ever soft-top car to achieve maximum five-star safety rating under the Euro NCAP collision programme.

The new 9-3 Convertible joins the 9-3 sport saloon and 9-5 with a full five-star rating making Saab the only manufacturer to offer a full range of five-star Euro NCAP models in the UK.

Best in class for occupant protection are the Toyota Corolla Verso, Volvo S40 and BMW Z4.

The Toyota Prius has become the first hybrid car to be tested by Euro NCAP and achieved a maximum rating of five-stars for child protection.

The new Honda Jazz has achieved three-stars in pedestrian safety.

In addition the Jazz has the best overall performance for combined safety in the class, with 4 star protection, 3 star pedestrian protection and 3 star child rear seating.
