Volkswagen has unveiled its next generation Beetle at the Detroit Motor Show.

The new Beetle Ragster, whose name is derived from a combination of Ragtop and Speedster, has been created with the Cabriolet design at its base, a shortened A-pillar and a U-shaped roof fixing as a frame for the canvas top. This makes the Ragster 103mm lower than the standard new Beetle.

At the rear, newly designed tail lights are integrated into the bumpers, chrome plated double exhaust pipes are featured as well as 19 inch alloy wheels.

A decision on whether the Ragster will go into production is yet to be made.
