A competition to find the most talented technician in the UK for 2006 has been launched.

Champion and the Federal-Mogul automotive parts brand, Ferodo, will test technicians to ‘breaking point’ in the competition’s fourth year.

Technician of the Year is designed to champion good garage practice and showcase the best of British technical skills and knowledge to benefit the industry's profile.

The winner will be awarded with a trophy, plaque, a holiday of their choice worth £2,500 and a weekend's 4x4 off-road adventure in the Lake District.

The competition is backed by the Retail Motor Industry Federation and the Institute of the Motor Industry.

The 2006 sees treble champion, John Tinham join the judging panel.

The competition is open to technicians working in a UK garage or workshop. The final is set for June 3-4.

Garages can expect to receive a registration form through the post in January or through Champion and Ferodo distributors.

Registered entrants will receive a multiple-choice questionnaire - the first of three stages.
