MG Rover 'cannot guarantee' warranty payments

MG Rover’s administrators have told the company it should no longer guarantee warranty work.

In an internal communication to staff PricewaterhouseCoopers says: "Any communications with the outside world with regard to the validity of the warranty should state that PwC is reviewing all the liabilities of MGR to advise on the activities that should be undertaken moving forward.

"No MGR staff are in a position to guarantee the fulfilment of warranty payment to any dealership or customer as it is entirely subject to the administrator’s discretion whether or not they are prepared to accept the exposure prior to any definitive comment from PwC being issued."

PwC says customers should be directed to the dealer they sourced the vehicle from with warranty queries.

But then it goes on to say: "This in itself is no guarantee that vending dealers will be prepared to carry out work, they simply open themselves up to the risk of further censure if they do not provide a suitable remedy in accordance with a customers rights."

PwC is planning to issue a statement which will clarify its decision and hopefully "will stem the flow of customer/dealer calls".
