Kia Motors UK is recalling 974 UK Sportage XS vehicles produced up to February 28.

This is a response to a number of Electronic Stability Program (ESP) problems reported on the new Sportage XS.

In the UK, only one customer vehicle has been affected and there was no resulting loss of control.

The precautionary work will upgrade the ESP control unit on all affected cars. This is a preventative measure that will ensure that the ESP is not activated when it is not required, the company says.

Customers affected will be contacted directly by Kia and advised to take their Sportage XS to their nearest authorised dealer. In all cases the upgrade will be free.
