Repairers and bodyshops could earn 20% commission each time they book a hire car for their customers through a referral scheme with UK’s largest independent vehicle rental company, 1car1.

The scheme will hinge on the support that 1car1 provides to each participating outlet. Repairers will be provided with point-of-sale material and booking information plus additional back-up from their local 1car1 branch. On receiving a car hire enquiry, repairers will simply place a call to the 1car1 branch and pass on the booking details.

Jon Oxbury, 1car1 sales and marketing manager, says: “We already manage courtesy car fleets on behalf of bodyshops and dealerships, and now wish to supply a similar high standard of service to those participating in the referral scheme, particularly as the company’s extensive and rapidly expanding network enables us to act quickly when a booking comes in.”

He hopes to sign up 200 repairers over the next 12 months. Cars available include Vauxhalls – Corsa, Astra and Vectra – and some Rover 75s. They can be supplied on a spot hire basis at “market rates” or supplied and kept at the garage.

In the last five years, 1car1 has tripled its number of outlets and now has 68 branches across the UK, with a further 32 opening within the next six months. It now has a presence not only in major towns and cities, but also airports and smaller conurbations, putting it closer to more repair businesses.

The garage referral scheme is one of a raft of new initiatives from 1car1 together with a major re-branding, including a new logo, that will strengthen the company’s presence in the UK.
