Pipeline Card, set up in November of last year to offer discounted petrol to private individuals, has now got 100,000 registered members.

The website, www.pipelinecard.org, set up by motor enthusiast and former fuel tax campaigner Ben Scammell - is expected to offer its members discounts of between 5p and 10p a litre on unleaded fuel via the Pipeline Discount Card.

“This is really about using the power of the Internet to get a better deal for ordinary British motorists”, explains Scammell. “Big companies have always been able to get cheaper fuel for their staff but we think this is the first UK discount fuel card for individuals.

“We have only been going for less than three months but we have already secured an agreement in principle from a major retail partner and our membership is growing very quickly. The card is free – there’s no annual fee – so people have nothing to lose by signing up. It takes about 30 seconds online.”

Pipeline card expects to begin issuing cards before the summer.
