Car retailing site exploits text messaging

A website for buying and selling cars has been launched using text messaging to send prospective buyers’ details straight to sellers’ mobile phones. is the first online car selling/buying service to use both mobile phone and email to notify sellers when there’s a potential buyer for their vehicle, as well as offering car dealers the chance to set up a ‘virtual forecourt’.

Individual sellers can choose to pay £1 per text message received from a prospective buyer or pay £4.99 a month until their car is sold, making it the cheapest place on the web to advertise your car, say the founders.

Sellers can choose to limit the number of SMS received (these only come from other registered users of the site) and they can reduce the asking price or update car details at any time for no additional fee.
