Motorpoint, the UK car supermarket group, has acquired the Mega Car retail site in Peterborough for an undisclosed sum.

The five acre outlet, situated close to the A1, brings the total number of sites now owned and operated by Motorpoint to five. It becomes the company's first site in the south of England. The original and first Motorpoint supermarket is based in Derby and the company has further sites in Burnley, Glasgow and Newport, South Wales.

The Mega Car business has been operating since the beginning of September this year and has the capacity to stock over 1,000 new and nearly new cars. It is expected to add a further 20% capacity to the number of cars and vans sold by Motorpoint over the next year.

David Shelton, Motorpoint managing director, said: “We have been searching for the right site in the south of the country for many months and the Peterborough location fitted our requirements exactly and will boost sales at Motorpoint to over 40,000 vehicles each year."

The five acre site which will be renamed Motorpoint, includes 17,000 sq ft of covered showroom, offices, valeting and servicing facilities.
