One of the world’s top speedway riders will take part in a race with a difference this weekend – when he mounts a pizza delivery moped.

In a stunt akin to Michael Schumacher go-kart racing or Frankie Dettori geeing a donkey along the seafront at Weston-super-Mare, the world’s number three speedway rider, Leigh Adams, will race Swindon-based Pebley Beach Robins team mates Lee Richardson and Mads Korneliussen on mopeds supplied by pizza franchise Dominos.

The race is the brainchild of Mike Brunsdon and Domnic Threlfall, owners of Wroughton and Cirencester-based Suzuki franchise Pebley Beach motors, joint title sponsors of the Robins.

Earlier this year Swindon’s Dominos Pizza franchise-holder James Swift swapped his fleet of mopeds for 10 new Suzuki Altos from Pebley Beach.

The Dominos Pebley Pizza Challenge will be the kick-start the pre-season Public Open Day at Swindon’s Abbey Stadium this Sunday from 1pm.

Leigh, Lee, Mads and a fourth team-mate will swap their 500cc, brakeless racing machines for 50cc ‘chicken chasers’ with rear-mounted boxes for carrying pizzas. When the tape goes up, they will race one lap around the 363 metre track before dismounting and running to the middle of the track to deliver a steaming Dominos pizza to the glamorous Pebley Beach Flag Girls.
