Work is under way on a new £7m showroom and workshop complex for Border Toyota in Carlisle.

The four-acre site will be home to three separate showrooms and a shared 20-bay workshop when it is completed in the late autumn. Cumbrian firm Story Construction has won the £3.5m contract to carry out all civil engineering, groundworks and construction. Border Toyota is investing another £1m in the development and £2.5m in stock, and hopes to create 30 jobs.

Archie Maclean, the managing director, plans to move the Toyota outlet from its current home in Carlisle’s Kingstown Industrial Estate, where it has been for many years. The Border group also has Toyota outlets in Dumfries and Melrose.
