Hyundai’s new dealer council has held its inaugural meeting on the back of continuing unrest among retailers.

Held on 26 and 27 April, the event was attended by nine of the 10-strong board. Those in attendance were: Maxine Croft, BCC; Gareth Williams, McLean and Appleton; Ron Crowhurst, Eddy Grimstead; Trevor May, Bristol Street Motors; Heidi Mikulla, Weston Hyundai; Adam Derbyshire, Spirit Motors; Daniel Daly, Daly Garage; Mark Naddell, Arnold Clark; and Ian Wakeford, St Leonard Motors. Richard Lawrence of Hylton was unable to attend.

Hyundai managing director Tony Whitehorn says the meeting was 'very constructive'.

He adds: "We have opened a formal conduit with the network allowing frank and open communication. The franchise board had a chance to hear where we want to go and to have its own say."

The franchise board will meet in July and November, with a dealer forum to be held two weeks before. The dealer forums will be chaired by a regional business manager ensuring that any issues are forwarded to the franchise board meeting.

"Everything at these meetings is then minuted, meaning dealers can see issues are being dealt with officially," Whitehorn says.

Gareth Williams of McLean and Appleton has been nominated chairman and Maxine Croft of BCC vice chair. The next meeting will be July 11 and 12.
