RAC Software Solutions has been acquired by VT Group plc within its VT Defence division as part of the acquisition of Lex Vehicle Solutions from Aviva plc for £87 million.

Lex Vehicle Solutions comprises RAC Software Solutions, Lex Defence, Lex Transfleet Airside Solutions and Lex Emergency Services.

Aidan Rowsome, managing director RAC Software Solutions, said: “We view this acquisition as very positive for RAC Software Solutions. VT Group provides a broad range of support services - mainly to governments and government agencies - including logistics support and facilities management in the defence, aviation and emergency services sectors, so they’re active in and have an in-depth knowledge of many of our markets. VT Group is committed to investing in continued growth in this area, something from which we can only benefit.

“We are like-minded companies, and I believe it will be a very good ‘fit’. Additionally, the acquisition will support the ongoing growth of RAC Software Solutions in the defence and civil sectors by enabling us to offer our software services to existing VT Group clients.

“The change in our parent company will not affect our contracts with customers or the service we deliver - VT is committed to building a long term relationship with our clients. Our relationships with other Lex and RAC companies will remain close and we will continue to work with them to deliver service to our joint clients. Everyone at RAC Software Solutions will remain employed by the business, so there will be continuity of service.”

RAC Software Solutions’ products are used by a wide range of commercial, public sector and defence organisations. Its client list includes 70% of all UK Police Forces and almost half of all UK Fire Brigades.

VT Group is a supplier of support services to governments and government agencies worldwide, including logistics support, facilities management and training solutions. In the UK its customers include MoD, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, HM Customs and Excise, Police, Coastguard, fire brigades and Special Forces. VT Group has grown by over 10% every year since 2000 and this acquisition is part of its strategy to maintain that growth and broaden the range of services it offers its customers.

The group made pre-tax profit of £52 million in its last financial year, on turnover of £744 million.
